Curated SXSW event list and more! 3/8-3/14
Happy Friday ATX! Itās National Proofreading Day - and Iām certainly participating as I get ready to hit send on this email to more people than Iāve ever emailed in my life. š¤ š
SXSW 2024 is upon us, and I took hours to go through the various spreadsheets that are being shared around and pulled out the events that are going to be awesome to attend, but wonāt be absolutely impossible to get into.
Theyāre all listed at the bottom of this newsletter. (you will probably have to click āview entire messageā, bc I packed this edition)
Donāt waste time getting around to these RSVPs, I highly recommend going through the list and RSVPing to everything that youāre interested in attending ASAP.
This will maximize your chances of entry.
Before we jump into itā¦
With Barton Springs officially reopening tomorrow, I felt like this meme was appropriateā¦ enjoy!

Weekend Forecast: Weāre getting a nice variety of weather over the next few days with the high in the 80s tomorrow, but dropping into the 60s over the weekend, with lows down in the 40s. The evening SXSW shows will probably be a little crisp if they arenāt inside, so dress accordingly!
If there was ever a legendary jam-packed weekendā¦ SXSW probably takes the cake over F1 (btw Saudi Arabian GP this weekend) and ACL. Itās going to be a busy one folks.
Yes ACL is 2 full weekends also, but SXSW also packs out the entire week in between. Thatās why this week the events section is extended deep into next week. Itās party time! š
Best thing we ate this weekā¦
If you know me personally, you know how much I love this place. It seems to be somewhat controversial, which I donāt understand.
I guess some of us just arenāt from around these parts and never learned what a good taco was back homeā¦
I have eaten a ridiculous amount of Tacodeli in the past 2 years since moving back home to Austin. Itās just so good.
My go-to for breakfast is the barbacoa madruguera which is a breakfast taco with mouth-watering barbacoa, scrambled eggs, a red sauce, and green onions. Their migas plate is another strong breakfast option if you arenāt feeling all of the meat. š¤Ø (LOL)
My go-to for lunch is the blue plate with a Shrimposito taco, a Frontero Fundido Sirloin taco, Mexican red rice, and refried black beans.
They also have great margaritas, Maine Root sodas, and Aguas Frescas.
The queso is top-notch as well, especially when you add the chorizo.
Itās a delicious, affordable meal that uses high-quality ingredients, and letās be real. You live in Austin. You can never go wrong with tacos.
There are a whole bunch of locations so thereās probably one near you!
Whatever you do, donāt forget the Dona Sauce.
Taco Deli
Most fun we had this weekā¦ On Sunday we had to go check out a very cool Ranch in Manor called Rancho Moonrise, more on that soon.
But because we were already 35 minutes east of Austin we figured why not try and find an adventure out here, and then we saw it.
We knew exactly what we were going to do.
We saw a billboard for Sherwood Forest Faire, a Renaissance festival less than an hour from Austin. Itās held at a permanent festival grounds that I have very fond memories of from a music festival hosted there many years ago, called Sound on Sound Fest. (reply to this email if you also attended Sound on Sound Fest! or if you just want to say hi)
It was another 30 minutes or so out, and we werenāt dressed for it at all. But we were already halfway there!
When we arrived it was even better than expected.
It's designed to recreate the atmosphere of medieval England and they do a great job! (I think???)
Highlights of the fair include:
1. Over 170 artisans spread out over the fair, visitors can browse and purchase a variety of handcrafted goods. š
2. A wide array of song and dance, storytelling, and magic shows. You can even expect to run into performers roaming around in costumes! š§
3. Traditional and themed food and bevies like mead, turkey legs, bratwurst, and unique items such as "dragon toes." šš
They also sell sweets and other treats. For you sweet tooths. š¬
4. Over 150 shows per day, performed by more than 40 different stage acts.
Including full-contact jousting, falconry, fire juggling, knife throwing, and various musical performances. š¦
The whole thing is live every weekend through April 21st!
Sherwood Forest Faire
BONUS most fun thing we did this week pt 2! We saw Shane Gillis hot off of SNL on Tuesday at Optimum Noctis, a new monthly show happening at the Creek and the Cave. Needless to say, it was fking hilarious. Weāll dive more into that as we get closer to Aprilās show.
These will have big guests and they will sell out fast, so make sure youāre following us on Instagram if you want to be alerted via our story when tickets like this become available. The linkās at the bottom of the newsletter!

New Business that we want to tryā¦ Hattie Bās recently opened up in the old Mariaās Taco Express location, and as sad as I am about Mariaās being gone, my guilty pleasure is fried chicken.
Iām a pretty big fan of Tumble 22, so Hattie Bās is going to have to be pretty dang good to get the go-to chicken joint designation. Iām sure I wonāt be able to resist waiting much longer to give it a shot.
When I do, Iāll be ordering it the second from the spiciest level to feel it out. If itās good enough to go for a round 2, Iāll go for the spiciest and report back.

Listing of the week
604 N Bluff Drive Austin, Texas, 78745
Price: $300,000
Neighborhood: South Congress
Square Feet: 941
This is a surprisingly attainable 1 bed 2 bath loft off of South Congress, south of 290. For $300k I feel like this would be a good first buy in Austin for a young person trying to get in a modern condo with a great location to access the hottest parts of the city within minutes. Itās got all the amenities you would expect, and the loft style makes it so much more interesting than a single-level condo. I honestly kind of want to buy this one for myselfā¦
Check out all of the details here.
Reddit post of the week from r/Austinā¦
Interesting to hear these takes whether youāre a local or a transplant! Reddit sure does complain a lot though š
3 interesting reads from this week in Austinā¦
The last time this was in town it was one of the best Broadway shows I have ever seen! 'Wicked' will be in Austin for 18 days. Here's how to get tickets.
Iāve always wondered about this massive tower right there in the middle of Clarksville!
I think we can unanimously agree that the City of Austinās website sucks. Apparently, they know.
Whereās the party?
Remember, a lot of these links are for limited RSVPs and waitlists. I recommend taking the time to go through this list and RSVP to any events that you might want to attend to maximize your chances of gaining entry.
