The best of ATX 2/23-25
Happy Friday ATX! If youâve been subscribed for a bit you know that normally I put whatever national day today it is here but honestly all of the national days for today suuuucked so weâre gonna skip that bit! đ
Letâs start this weekâs newsletter with another question.
When was the last time you envisioned the ideal version of yourself?
How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? Where do you want to live? What material possessions do you want to own? How do you want to be spending your time?
Then ask yourself: Who do I have to become to achieve that?
This is just a short reminder. If we donât have a destination in mind, then we are just wandering. I want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with wandering. It may even align with your answers to the questions above. However, if you have big aspirations, wandering may not be the best route to your destination.
Just like a GPS you need to choose the destination first, and then start heading in that direction.
There may be detours and unexpected obstacles, but if the destination is set then itâs all just part of the path.
Cheers friends. Letâs jump into whatâs going on in Austin this week!
But first⊠a meme
Weekend Forecast: This weekend weâre continuing with the perfect weather through Sunday with highs in the 70s and 80s and very sunny! đ (perfect weather to enjoy one of the last free weekends at Barton Springs before the paid season starts on March 9th.)
We have the first Austin FC game of the season, Austin Music Awards, a Pun contest with AI vs humans that Iâm weirdly intrigued by, and a bunch of comedy shows + live music as usual.
It should be a good one.
Best thing we drank (lets try this?) this week⊠Have you ever had a frozen Mexican Martini? Well while everyone else was consuming normal margaritas on National Margarita Day, we chose to consume a superior beverage.
(Itâs literally just a margarita with olive juice fyi)
Now Iâve had plenty of Mexican Martinis around town, but Holiday on 7th is the first place I have found that is offering this in a frozen format and it hits the spot.
We also had french fries with some sort of buttermilk aioli, and delicious bar nuts. They have a pretty awesome food menu that I need to make time to explore, but I had already cooked dinner before going out.
Most fun we had last week⊠Surprise surprise! Another comedy show! đ
Think about all of the local comics we know and love from around town and on Kill Tony hosting a weekly news show⊠How cool would that be?
Well, we went to Sunset Strip Comedy for a show called Good Evening News on Tuesday night and that is exactly what we got. It was hilarious. This was the students running the classroom and as such, comedy chaos ensued.
This is a weekly show hosted by Jack Timmons and I highly recommend it if youâre looking for a rowdy, free comedy show early in the week.
sorry the picture quality is a** this is a frame from a video I took before the showâŠ
New Business that we want to try⊠Poeta looks amazing. From the team behind Intero, it opened on Dec. 8th in Uncle Nickyâs old spot in the Frances Modern Inn. They serve all-day Italian food in a gorgeous setting. Check out the menu and tell me it doesnât look insane.
