Halloweekend 1! 🎃👻🦇
Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s National Frankenstein Day and the kickoff of Halloweekend 1!
Now that we are through the first ⅔ of October and all of the craziness that came with it, I feel like the Halloween vibes are really kicking in and I want to remind you to savor it for the last week of it before every department store is covered in Christmas stuff starting November 1st.

Weekend Forecast: High of 89 low of 65 this weekend, with tons of spooky season fun happening. Freaky Deaky Fest, comedy shows, live music, yoga, and so much more! 👻
Best thing we ate this week… Rollin’ Smoke BBQ is a place that I have been relying on for late night BBQ since they were across the street from Hotel Vegas many years ago. They have had a few homes over the years but they recently moved to one of my favorite bars in Austin, Chalmers ATX, and nothing makes me more happy than to hear that they have been breaking their daily sales records since moving there. These guys deserve it. Their pastrami burnt ends have been an elusive menu item that I always seem to miss but I finally caught them last weekend and goooood lord they are special. Having their BBQ with one of those frozen mexican martinis from Chalmers is a match made in heaven.
Side note: Chalmers has made significant expansions since I last visited and it might be one of the best set ups to watch football games and sporting events in Austin. They now have a jaw-dropping amount of screens and an amazing seating arrangement for going out with friends.
Rollin’ Smoke BBQ
Most fun we had this week… We went to check out the Twisted Carnival Halloween pop up at Gibson Street Bar that we featured last week and we were so impressed. The way they transformed the place into a spooky Halloween wonderland is awesome.
They focused on the details all the way down to the garnishes on the drinks and the dirty stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling and it almost gave me spooky “Meow Wolf” vibes if you’ve been lucky enough to check any of those out.
Whoever designed and decorated did a great job with this. I had 2 drinks, the Gibby the Clown which was a lavender infused mezcal drink with pear and ancho verde liquor, I liked it… but it didn’t hold a candle to the frozen Ectoplasm cocktail which was like a passionfruit margarita of some sort (I don’t really remember all that was in this one only that it was delicious).

Twisted Carnival
New Business that we want to try… Lace Burgers has been located up in north Austin since some time in 2023 and seem to be doing a lot more pop ups down in central Austin lately. I have not tried it yet but their burger looks like it will contend for the best that I have had. My expectations are super high so I cannot wait to see if it meets them! They’ll be at Kitty Cohens next Wednesday and I am hoping to make it over there to give it a try.
