Happy Friday ATX! Edition 4

2/2-2/4 2024

Happy Friday ATX! it’s Groundhog day! Looks like we are getting an early spring according to the weather sage, Phil (no not Dr. Phil, the groundhog Phil)

I am writing this to you while blaring Greta Van Fleet in my apartment at 11:58 PM, fresh off of a trip to De Nada Cantina, so bear with me 😂

What a week it has been. I left my job in corporate America to pursue this venture full-time.

While it may seem crazy to you because it’s just the beginning of HFATX, I told myself this was going to be a year of unbridled authenticity. This project is a huge piece of that puzzle.

Look, you are here because you’re tired of falling into the same patterns. You’re tired of scanning every platform and page to find out wtf is happening in this amazing city, and still ending up at the same places every weekend.

We are here to change that. This newsletter may not make you a top-tier socialite of ATX (I mean it might…) but you’ll be more plugged in to this city than you ever were before you subscribed.

Let’s dive right in!

Weekend Forecast: We have a beautiful weekend ahead of us my friends. We have some bangers for you as far as events go, and the weather is gorgeous. Highs around 70, a bit stormy Friday night, but a bright and sunny weekend otherwise 🌞

The best thing we ate this week… I’m ashamed to say that I may be a bit late to the party on this one, but if you haven’t checked out Sour Duck Market yet then you should be ashamed of yourself also. Go there this weekend and order one of the Peeler Farms Wagyu burgers (only $9 for a double during happy hour 3-6 PM Wednesday through Sunday). It is definitely in my top 3 burgers in Austin at this point. That is a hell of a statement coming from me.

Located on East MLK, this place just adds to the list of why East Austin might be the best part of this city right now. Ample parking in the back, a huge outdoor dining space, amazing food and cocktails, I mean what more can you ask for?

Walking into Sour Duck I was struck by the rustic vibes and the eclectic Austin crowd that was chowing down and drinking early in the day. The place was packed, and for good reason.

As I mentioned above, I ordered the Peeler Farms Wagyu burger. It is a burger with smashed Wagyu patties sourced from a farm only 1 hour and 33 minutes away from where I am sitting as I write this, American & pimento cheese, house-made pickles, secret sauce, and a challah bun.

The fries that came with it were some of the favorites that I have had in Austin, served with house-made ketchup, they were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and most importantly, not greasy at all.

Kiana ordered the smoked red chile goat memela, with a glass of mint lemonade to wash it down. You may be thinking WTF is a memela? Well, it’s a griddled corn masa cake, with Oaxaca cheese, cabbage, radish, cilantro, and wait for it… a fried egg.

I am going to leave you with a bit of advice here. If you haven’t tried it yet, or even if you have, make it a point to go sit outside and grub out on some amazing food at Sour Duck Market this weekend. Thank me later.

New Business that we want to try… Have you ever wanted to be on a game show? Well now is your chance (well sort of) Game On ATX looks LEGIT. This place is such a cool concept. It looks like they have games that are renditions of recognizable game show games such as Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and others. It is BYOB, so bring your friends (minimum of 6, maximum of 44 if you’re a real social butterfly, or if it’s a corporate outing) and your favorite bevvies, and get your game on.
