Well I guess we were gonna get hit with a heatwave eventually, at least it was only a few days over 100 degrees this time.
Honestly itās wild that we live in a place where 97 degrees has been considered a rather mild summer.
But hey, itās Austinā¦ Iāll take the heat for everything else that this city offers, and we do have some unique ways to beat the heat compared to other parts of Texasā¦ looking at you Barton Springs and Frozen Mexican Martinis.

Weekend Forecast: This weekend thereās an assortment of very cool parties, stand up comedy, and outdoor activities for you to soak up the sun. Weāll have highs in the 90s, lows in the 70s and it will be very sunny. Some of my favorite events listed below are SUP Yoga on Saturday morning, and the Tillery Street Plant Co X Mohawk collaboration on Sunday afternoon.
Best thing we ate this weekā¦ When we used to live in Denver, there was an abundance of food courts that served as āincubatorsā for startup restaurants to tap into the markets that these food courts possessed. In Austin however, I havenāt noticed many of these concepts that are not food truck parks. There is one that comes to mind however, Fareground down on Congress and Cesar Chavez. I hadnāt been here since I was working at the Frost Tower at the beginning of this year, but it was fresh on my mind because I had just read that our favorite coffee shop ever (Desnudo if you didnāt know) has opened their second location there!
Anyways, we found easy enough street parking and made our way through the courtyard and under the sign that reads āFareground Eat+Drinkā down to the entrance. First thing we saw when we walked inside was the stall of Four Brothers Venezuelan. We love Four Brothers, their empanadas have brought us back to earth many times at ACL Fest in the past, and we knew we had to try some of their other offerings. We decided on the whole stuffed sweet plantain with shredded chicken and an Arepa that contained shredded beef, more plantains, avocado, black beans, and a myriad of sauces. That was just our first stop thoughā¦
We also HAD to try Tacos Pegaso because I had seen a friend of mine order the smoked birria tacos from them in the past and they looked awesome. We ordered the smoked birria and a half order of the papas preparadas (essentially loaded fries). Once we got the texts from both restaurants that our food was ready we went to the counters to collect and rendevouzed at our table. Everything was delicious, but for me the real star of the show was the smoked birria tacos. I already love birria, so add smoked meat and Iām in heaven. The consome was a thicker and sweeter version than ones I have had before, and Kiana made a very apt comparison to BBQ sauce that I thought was pretty accurate.
Her favorite thing on the table was by far the stuffed plantain, which was a close second for me. The perfectly caramelized plantain was stuffed with shredded chicken, peppers, and tomatoes, and topped with queso fresca and āVenezuelan sour creamā and it was an explosion of amazing flavors and textures.
I really hope we see more of these indoor food courts pop up in Austin because they make going out to eat with more than one person so easy. Check out the whole Fareground restaurant list and go check this place out!
Tacos Pegaso + Four Brothers Venezuelan
Most fun we had this weekā¦ Last night we wanted to go catch some tunes and it had been a while since I had stopped into the Elephant Room. If you havenāt heard of Elephant Room itās a popular jazz club downtown between 3rd and 4th streets on Congress Avenue, and over the last 35 years it has become an Austin staple for live music every night of the week. Upon arrival you walk past a blue and yellow neon sign in a garden level window that reads āElephant Roomā, then you walk down a set of steps into the half-underground jazz club.
I forget how much I love Jazz music. The vibes, the syncopation, the solos followed by eruptions of applause from the audience. The room was dimly lit, with a crowd of all ages, some were clearly Austin natives, and some were clearly tourists, but everyone was really digging it.
Long story short, if you want a low-key night out in a dimly lit club with feel good music, put Elephant Room on your shortlist.

New Business that we want to tryā¦ Thereās a new wine bar in East Austin that looks sleek and modern called RSRV. Every time I drive past, it catches my eye because itās got a bunch of nice cars out front and looks a bit like a compound.
Iāve actually been wondering about it for awhile, and only recently found their Instagram page. I still donāt know too much about it, but from what Iāve gathered it is owned by 3 UT Austin Grads that are working to create an elevated social environment for people to share wine and small bites. The building used to be a gas station, but theyāve clearly put a lot of work into the place because the interior looks pretty stunning from what I have seen online.
It fits perfectly into the category of new business that I want to try, and Iāll report back once we do. They have a day party tomorrow from 3-7pm and it might be the perfect time to swing by. š·

Iāve always dug the Northwest Hills neighborhood. This place just caught our eye when scrolling through and we had to share. Itās got this bright, open vibe with natural hickory floors and fresh upgrades all around. The kitchen is super slickāquartz countertops, tons of storage, and a big island for hanging out. Skylights? Check. Cool chandelier? Yep. The primary bedroom leads right out to a backyard with a hot tub, so thatās pretty awesome. And itās in a sweet spot too, close to Mopac and all the local spots. Definitely a house thatās got it all going on.
