Check out the best of Austin this weekend! đȘ©đđđ»ââïž
Happy Friday ATX! đ€ Itâs National Rum Day! Might be a good day to check whether Tiki-Tatsuya has any availability. They have a rum list that contains over 200 types of rum.đ€Ż
(this place is one of my favorite places in Austin hands-down and weâll cover it more in depth at some point but let this serve as a preliminary shoutout)
I donât have much for you in the intro this weekâŠ
I just canât believe I have written and sent out 31 of these⊠some of the responses to the welcome emails lately have made me smile from ear to ear.
I just want to let each and every one of you know that I am stoked that you are reading this. I hope this weekly email provides you with something to look forward to, and a little nudge to go do something fun every weekend.
And with that hereâs your little nugget of some ATX humor before we jump into the rest of itâŠ
We â€ïž HEB.
Weekend Forecast: Comedy shows, pool parties, run clubs, and more pool parties. Thatâs what this weekend has in store for you. Itâs the end of Summer in Austin, Texas and it doesnât really get much better than this folks. Take a moment to be grateful that you get to live your life in one of the best cities in the country.
I sort of chuckle to myself as I write this, because while the end of summer IS approaching and people are headed back to school, we all know that itâs probably going to feel like summer until well into October!
Best thing we ate this week⊠We all love a good happy hour, but what about a reverse happy hour? Well Umi Sushi Bar & Grill has one of my favorite reverse happy hours in Austin, with an insane happy hour menu and a live DJ spinning from 9-11pm Thursday-Saturday. We went there last night and got a glass of white wine, a cucumber martini, a seaweed salad, an order of shrimp shumai, 2 crispy shrimp hand rolls (donât sleep on these), a spicy tuna roll, a california roll, chicken robata skewers, and tempura fried mushroom skewers⊠all for $46. Itâs always delicious but this was my first time having the chicken skewers, and it was a nice way to round out the dinner with something warm and savory.
Weâre South Austin natives, so weâve been hitting up Umi for years, the environment is fun and its a big spacy restaurant. Is it the best sushi in Austin? Well no⊠but itâs pretty awesome for what it is. Affordable sushi with fun vibes and a late night happy hour.

Most fun we had this week⊠Iâve been slacking on getting my laughs in lately, when I first started writing this newsletter I feel like I was hitting 2 shows a week minimum.
Anyway, this past Tuesday we went to a somewhat newer twice-a-month show that is hosted by Allison Wojtowecz at The Creek and The Cave called Litty Titty Tuesday. Itâs a show where three random audience members get electric glowsticks, and they have the power to end a comics set early and get them âgongedâ off of the stage. The way it works, is that if a comic is bombing or the glowstick holders deem that they arenât enjoying the set, they turn on their glowsticks, and if all 3 glowsticks come on the comic gets booted from the stage in dramatic fashion that involves the use of a gong.
The only issue with the show we went to is that basically none of the comics bombed, they were all crushing! A few comics did end up getting gonged off stage towards the end of their of their sets because they were losing momentum, but overall it was a great lineup.
This is a fun thing to do if you find yourself wanting to get out of the house and have some laughs for a couple of hours on a Tuesday night. Just know that the comics know absolutely no boundaries, so if youâre one that prefers cleaner comedy, these shows might not be for you.
We love the Austin comedy scene, and if itâs something youâve yet to experience you should definitely check it out. You donât have to go to Mothership to get a taste of a lot of the same comics that grace the stage there. There are a lot of fantastic clubs in this city, and The Creek and The Cave is one of the best.

New Business that we want to try⊠I dont know about you, but I will slam some fish & chips just about any time after 11am. Why is that relevant? Well, thereâs a new spot in town hailing from New York City. The acclaimed Irish pub called The Dead Rabbit recently opened up down on East 6th Street and has created quite the buzz for itself.
The goal of the team behind Dead Rabbit is to âspread the love of the Irish Pub,â while challenging the misconceptions around Irish culture (which means that itâs not just a pub for kids to get drunk on St. Paddyâs day).
Theyâre doing this with a dimly lit, warm bar with copper details, serving elevated versions of all of your favorite Irish food and drinks. Of course, the Texas version of this bar will have some drinks and items that are using locally sourced ingredients that you wonât find at their NYC counterpart.
They have an all star roster working to bring the project to life with folks from the New York team, from Ireland, and of course some of Austinâs own industry vets including folks from the likes of the famed brothel-turned-speakeasy Midnight Cowboy and FBR Management (they run some of Austinâs most iconic spots).
(This join has a guy on the team whoâs only title is âDirector of Irish Whiskeyâ... I found that fascinating)
Needless to say, I am extremely excited to give this place a go. If you beat me to it, let us know how it was by replying to this email!

This 1968 mid-century modern gem is the perfect mix of vintage charm and fresh updates. Remodeled to impress, it still rocks its original terrazzo tiles, split-level entry, and funky living room windows. The kitchen and dining area serve up amazing views, and outside, you've got nearly 1/3 acre with towering trees, a spacious double-deck, and a creekside hangout spotâideal for entertaining or chilling out. Downstairs offers a separate living space with a wet bar, perfect for guests. Major updates? Done. And you're just 10 minutes from downtown Austin!
