Happy Friday ATX! šŸ¤  Edition #27

Pool Party Bonanza!!! šŸŒ“šŸ¹

Happy Friday ATX! šŸ¤  Itā€™sNational Daquiri Day! Might be a great day to grab a frozen daiquiri at Lil EasyšŸ˜šŸ¹

If youā€™ve ever tried something newā€¦ you probably sucked at it at first. There might even be a graveyard of things that you tried, sucked at, and then never tried again.

Iā€™m here to remind you that when you start something new. Youā€™re allowed to suck at first! I mean honestly, youā€™re SUPPOSED to suck at first.

So I just want you to remember that when you are trying something new, allow the suck, embrace the suck, because thatā€™s how you get better and eventually donā€™t suck anymore. Itā€™s how hobbies and passions are formed and how some of the most prominent humans in history have risen to greatness. They tried something, sucked at it, but persisted until they didnā€™t suck anymore, and eventually became great.

I encourage you all to be trying new things, all the time. That is how you become an interesting person who leads an interesting life. Donā€™t live the same year over and over again. Find new hobbies and new passions. Create a life that lights you up!

And with thatā€¦. lets jump right into it!

Hey man I didnā€™t make this one butā€¦ sorta nailed it?

Weekend Forecast: The theme of the weekend is pool parties. I think we have 3 (ā€¦maybe 4?) of them listed this weekend. Itā€™s going to be a sunny weekend followed by a rainy week, so bust out your swimmies, grab your favorite sips, and soak up that vitamin D by the poolside. šŸ¹šŸŒžšŸ˜Ž

Best thing we ate this weekā€¦ We went to one of the best sushi restaurants in the nation this week called Musashino, and itā€™s right here in Austin, Texas. The chefs that went on to start Uchi, Fukumoto, Ramen Tatsuya and all of their associated concepts, and many others cut their teeth in this restaurant before going on to build their own culinary legacies. Itā€™s tucked away on the second floor of a shopping center on the corner of 29th and Lamar, and you almost wouldnā€™t even know it was there if you didnā€™t knowā€¦ but what awaits you inside is truly a special Austin dining experience.

The space is beautiful inside, and we were seated at a little 2-top in the corner. We got there about an hour before they closed but were told the kitchen would be making their last call soon (it didnā€™t happen for another 15 minutes or so) so we started ordering without wasting too much time. We ordered 2 miso soups, a Toro Taku Roll, a Negitoro roll, a Salmon Skin Hosomaki roll, a U Maki roll, a South Side Roll, some Big Eye Tuna Nigiri, Tekone Zushi, and a Philadelphia roll. When I type it out here it seems like a decent amount of food but when we ordered it, for some reason I was worried it wouldnt be enough. HAHA.

When the food started rolling out it was clear this place was a cut above your average sushi joint. The quality of the fish was top-notch, the attention to detail was apparent, and the overall craftsmanship of the rolls was so far above your average sushi joint, it was wild.

I think our favorite item was the southside roll, followed by the negitoro and the toro taku rolls. This was easily the best thing we ate this week, and honestly probably this month. Musashino is a must-try establishment in Austin given itā€™s influence on the local food scene.

Most fun we had this weekā€¦ As much as I love soaking up the sun during the magnificent summers in Austin, sometimes I just want to hide away and watch a movieā€¦ and what better place to do that than Alamo Drafthouse!

Kiana and I were looking for something that would be relaxing on Wednesday evening and it hit me that there was a new Despicable Me movie out and also that I was craving some bottomless buttered popcorn. Without giving anything awayā€¦ the movie was as funny and cute as youā€™d expect your typical minions flic to be and it met all expectations.

Alamo is a refined experience these days as well. If for some reason you are unaware of it, itā€™s a movie theater with a full restaurant menu and a waiter dedicated to serving you. You get to see a movie and smash some delicious food. It may be a nationwide chain now, but it started right here in Austin, Texas and for that we love it.

New Business that we want to tryā€¦ We featured Zoe Tongā€™s a looong time ago as a new business we wanted to try before most of you ever subscribed to us and honestlyā€¦ still havenā€™t gotten around to it. But now itā€™s DOUBLE on my list because I just learned that they opened yet another concept in the parking lot using an inherited smoker from the last tenants that occupied the space. The concept is focused on bringing Chinese flavors together with the smoky essence of Texas BBQ.

Itā€™s called Si Baby Q, and while I donā€™t know much about this place as there isnā€™t a ton of information online about it, I do know that I have to try it. Soon.

Well, as soon as we found this listing we knew we had to feature it. I love cool little Austin compounds like this in the 04 neighborhood.
