Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 Edition #25
Check out the best of Austin this weekend 7/5-7/7 🕺🏻🪩
Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s National Bikini Day! 👙 Barton Springs anyone? 🌞
Happy Belated Freedom Day everyone! This is going to be a short intro… but I just want you to think about what freedom means to you and what you want to do with the opportunities that exist for you while living in this country.
It’s really easy to complain about all of the things that are problematic in America, and there are plenty… but it’s a lot harder to go out there and see what you can do with the opportunities that are afforded to you.
I challenge you to take the harder path. Do more. Create more. Surround yourself with the things that interest you and pour your heart into them. Try to find jobs and hobbies and people that align with your soul.
Do that for a long time, with pure and authentic intentions, while enjoying yourself as much as possible, and opportunities will present themselves along the journey.
Anyway…. let’s jump right into what’s happening in Austin, but first here’s a meme!
Well yesterday… but honestly probably today too bc leftovers
Weekend Forecast: It’s 4th of July Weekend! There are some lingering festivities throughout the next few days along with lots of great stand-up comedy, an Austin FC home game, group workouts and yoga classes, and much more!
You might want to make it a priority to get outside while the weather is nice this weekend because there is a ton of rain in the forecast through next week.
Make sure to stay hydrated as temps will be in the high 90s! 🌞😎
Best thing we ate this week… I don’t think we’ve done a full feature for Loro yet, but Loro is one of our go-to restaurants in town. Today I’ll keep my focus on one particular dish, but expect a proper feature covering everything else sometime soon.
I went to Loro this week with a sole purpose - to try the smoked beef back ribs that are only available on Sunday and Monday after 4 pm.
These things were crispy on the outside and so smoky and tender on the inside, and came with a pineapple-tamarind BBQ sauce that was incredible. I’m usually pretty sparing with the sauce when it comes to BBQ but I couldn’t stop lathering it on - and the pickled carrots on the side are bright and salty and are the perfect pairing to cut through the rich smokiness of the ribs.
At $18 and with 3 medium-sized ribs it’s probably the best deal in Austin to get your hands on some BBQ beef ribs.

Most fun we had this week… YOU EVER BEEN TO A HOT DAWG EATIN’ CONTEST?!
Well, yesterday we went to The Mohawk’s Annual 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Let me set the scene for you… you walk into a classic Austin venue, screaming punk music blaring, you see a guy sweating his brains out in a hotdog costume dancing near stage, another guy in just his underwear and an apron grilling hotdogs for the contest, and a 30+ minute line for some of the most glorious looking hotdogs you’ve ever seen in your life from Zee’s Wiener System.
Honestly, I was excited to see people slam as many hotdogs as humanly possible, but the REAL reason I was there was to try Zee’s Wiener System (featured as a new business we wanted to try in a previous newsletter).
It lived up to the hype. I got the classic, and it was an unreasonably good hot dog. From memory, I think it’s got Rhode Island meat sauce, mustard, minced onions, and an oversized hot dog with the perfect snap to it.
The contest is an annual thing and is tons of fun, next 4th of July I recommend popping in to check it out. And in the meantime, you can catch Zee’s Wiener System out in the wild doing pop-ups at some of the coolest venues in Austin almost every weekend.

New Business that we want to try… Uncle Nicky’s on South Lamar has me hyped up! Open from 8a-11p, serving brunch AND having an awesome happy hour every single day. Their happy hour has only 5 drink options on it, but the coolest part is that if you get any cocktail during happy hour you get to enjoy their selection of complimentary Italian snacks.
Their brunch has options like Orange Champagne Marmalade Toasted Focaccia, and Mini Ricotta Pancakes if you’re craving something sweeter, or Frittatas and proper breakfast spreads like their Breakfast Italiano if you’re feeling something on the savory side.
For lunch and dinner, they have all the classics… meatballs, pasta, antipasti, and sandwiches of all types, including my favorite type of Italian sandwich… porchetta.
They just opened up this new location, they appear to be doing everything right, and we cannot wait to go give it a try.
