Happy Friday ATX! đŸ€  Edition #23

Check out the best of Austin this weekend! 6/21-6/23 đŸȘ©

Happy Friday ATX! đŸ€  It’s National Smoothie Day! Head on over to Juiceland to get your favorite smoothie! Mine is the Morning Sunshine 🌞

I just want to remind you all that life is a game and we are all just players. Who your player is is up to you.

Sometimes I catch myself taking things so seriously, and coincidentally (or not so coincidentally) my performance falls off, and I stress myself out.

I find that I tend to perform my best whenever I view life as a very big, very detailed, and extremely fun game.

When you’re playing, you’re having fun, and if you view life and work and business and everything else as a game, then you’re playing your way through it. I can’t think of a better way to live.

Anyways let’s jump right into it with a meme!

Weekend Forecast: Is anyone else surprised we haven’t seen 100+ degrees yet? Don’t want to jinx it
but I feel like last summer we were weeks into constant 100 degree weather by this point. đŸ„”đŸȘ

Anyway, it’s another beautiful sunny weekend in Austin, Texas! Highs in the low to mid-90s, lows in the 70s. There are a ton of super cool events happening this week from the return of the full moon night swim at Austin Motel, Art Island stepping up to a new level of venue for them at Estelle’s, and a few different options to get your body moving! This weekend’s going to be a great one!

Best thing we ate this week
Two Hands. You have Two Hands. I have Two Hands. And South Congress has Two Hands.

We tried it out and we were pretty impressed. I had heard of this spot for coffee and am not sure if they have been doing dinner service for a long time or if it is a relatively new thing but hey, the menu looked good so we gave it a shot.

It’s right in the heart of South Congress, as you approach all you see is blue tiles everywhere, and then you walk down into the restaurant upon entry. The interior is much less blue and has a cozy vibe to it. They dub themselves “Australian Food” but I’m still trying to figure out what exactly that is. We started with these insanely delicious corn and jalapeno fritters. Kiana got a Miso Mushroom bowl with roasted salmon added. I got a burger and it was a great burger, on a sesame bun, but was nothing spectacular. The fries were solid, but again, just standard really good fries. Kiana’s bowl was the star of the table with so many awesome flavors combined in one bowl.

The best thing BY FAR was the banana bread though
yes they have a dessert banana bread, and while the bread itself is amazing, the espresso mascarpone that they generously slather on top is what really makes it. And on top of it being insanely delicious, it’s also gluten-free!

I think if I go again I’ll order something other than the burger because this place pulls off the slightly more elevated dishes so well. Austin already has so many insane burgers and the bar is so high now.

Overall it was a nice, dimly lit, date night type of dinner. It served its purpose, and I do recommend giving it a go. Next, I need to give them a try for coffee and pastries!

Two Hands

Most fun we had this week
Okay okay, it’s more food but honestly
the most fun thing I did by far this week was try out Korean BBQ for the first time.

We went to K-Pot down on Brodie for the lunch special (22.99 a person for all you can eat either hotpot or kbbq) and I honestly had no idea what to expect. The waiter was phenomenal and we actually recognized eachother from Sherwood Forest Faire (featured in an earlier edition of our newsletter)  which happens to be her other job, she served us the turkey leg pictured in the newsletter.

Anyhow, she was incredibly helpful in guiding us through how to order and what to order and we had sooo much fun cooking our own food right there in front of us and dipping it into the delicious sauces. My favorite by a landslide was the beef belly. It’s like beef bacon and it is unbelievable. We ordered round after round after round of it. In second place was the beef bulgogi, a perfectly balanced mix of sweet and savory beef that you get to cook to your liking and eat fresh off of the grill. We also really enjoyed the garlic shrimp, the chicken bulgogi, the basil chicken (from the sauce bar), and the eggplant.

The service was truly top-notch here, as soon as we ordered more it was on the table in a matter of a few minutes max. They were never absent for long and always tried to be as helpful as possible. I may be late to the party with Korean BBQ, but it was a super fun and delicious experience. I highly recommend K-Pot for the next time you want a meal that is a bit more involved and social. It was a really enjoyable experience.

New Business that we want to try
This one isn’t open yet, but is set to open up this summer. From the looks of it already, Cabana Club ATX looks like it’s going to be an absolute smash hit. It’s a “comprehensive community club” open 7a-12a hours daily, coffee, cocktails, 3 food trucks onsite, poolside cabanas for rent, poolside bar and clubside bar, all right smack in the middle of East Austin near some of our other favorites like Holiday on 7th!

Oh and you know how I said it’s opening up this summer
well it’s not some arbitrary “maybe we’ll be open” date
they’re set to open up on June 28th and I could not be more excited to check it out.

For those in the service industry looking for work or a change, they also have a career day on June 21st aka today! Check out their instagram for all the details and we hope you are as excited about this one as we are.
