Check out the best of what's happening in Austin this weekend! šŖ©š
Happy Friday ATX! š¤ Itās National Smile Day! š
āThe first recorded National Smile Day took place in 126 B.C. Okay, we made that up. But did you smile? Joking aside, we generate a smile when funny things happen or find pleasure in the things we do. Someone we love or enjoy spending time with may be the cause of a grin or beaming look of joy.
Smiles are powerful! They not only create engagement between two people but the more a person smiles, the healthier their brain can be. Smiling has a direct link to our brain and can help to reduce stress.ā
MAKE SURE YOU TAKE EVERY CHANCE TO SMILE TODAY!
Okay, weāre back to regularly scheduled programming, letās jump right into itā¦
hehe did u smile?
Weekend Forecast: Typing this during the thunderstorm this morning and let me tell yaā¦ I hope all this rain is going to result in a flowing greenbelt for us to enjoy this summer. The good news is that the rain should subside today and we should have an awesome weekend with a mostly cloudy Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s. āļøāļø
Plenty of things to choose from over the next few days from run clubs to ball games, comedy shows, live music, and more.
Best thing we ate this weekā¦ Kinda Tropical is an East Austin bar and restaurant that Iāve been going to for years now, and having not been in awhile I thought it was time to revisit it.
Many of the fantastic late night food spots in Austin shut down during the pandemic only to never return to their pre-pandemic hours which has made dining in Austin after 10pm so much more difficult. But not Kinda Tropical, with a killer lineup of frozen cocktails like a Pineapple Jalapeno Marg, a Mango Marg, a Strawberry Pina Colada, and their Watermelon Cucumber Mint frozen, it is also one of the best places to go grab a cold beverage during the summer. Like I mentioned though, itās not all about the drinks here. The food has some pedigree behind it as well. Owner and chef John Clark DiCicco worked at one of Austinās best restaurants, Olamaie, for nearly 5 years!
While the menu isnāt huge it is well thought out. The burger (what I orderedā¦) consists of 2 local grass fed patties, Fromage Blanc American Cheese, quickle pickles, kewpie mayo, red onion, and a sesame bun that does not skimp on the sesame seeds. The curly fries, while being pretty standard for curly fries, were served with a house made spicy ketchup that puts Whataburger to shame, and donāt even get me started about the garlic aioliā¦
Kiana ordered a Thai Coconut Salad with Tofu that blew my expectations out of the water and was one of the top salads Iāve ever had. It consisted of butter lettuce, thai coconut dressing, cucumber, peanuts, cilantro, Thai basil, and mint. It was served nice and cold like a salad should be, and with all of the fresh herbs and a delicious dressing, it was soooo refreshing.
On top of the food I also had a Mango Marg and a Watermelon Cucumber Mint frozen, simply because they have some of the best frozens in town and I find it hard not to order one (or two) when I am there!
Whether this is a reminder for you that this place exists, or this is the first time youāre hearing about itā¦ If youāre are looking for a place to grab quality food after 10pm, or just a great spot to go out and kick back with friends while enjoying delicious food and drinks, Kinda Tropical should be up there on that list.

Most fun we had this weekā¦ There are still a few comedy clubs around town that I have yet to check off my list, but I am working my way through them all one by one.
Iāve been hearing about East Austin Comedy Club for quite some time, since before I really even knew how good the comedy scene had gotten in Austin, and for some reason, I really didnāt expect it to be such a tiny and intimate venue.
We went to check it out last night and the first thing that hit me was just how low-key this place was. You could walk past it over and over without knowing it was there. Iāve actually done that many times because there are a few spots that I frequent right on that same block. We were welcomed by a fellow who we later learned happened to be the host for the night and he was absolutely hilarious when opening up the show. We sat on the 2nd row, which also happened to be the back row. Naturally, in such an intimate venue there was crowd work throughout the night and we were avidly avoiding eye contact hoping the comics didnāt decide to start picking on us. š
The entire lineup was pretty funny and consisted of a lot of the same folks you see getting pulled out of the bucket on Kill Tony. Overall this was by far the most intimate venue I have seen comedy at so far, and for that reason I have to recommend it.
Pro tip: Itās BYOB, so make sure to bring your favorite drink to sip on if that's what you desire.

New Business that we want to tryā¦ Thereās a new bar in town that catches my eye and makes me stop scrolling every single time I see it on my Instagram feed. The wallpapers, textures, and interior design of this new spot on west 6th can only be described as swanky af.
Think intricate wallpapers, exquisite attention to the details including the little things like the lamps and the doorknobs. With so much love put into the space I can only imagine how great the cocktails and the food are.
Every Thursday they have a steak night from 6-11p with a DJ and your choice of a ribeye for $45 and a hanger steak for $35, both come with two sides.
Sometime soon here I am going to make it a point to get over to The Betty and check it out!
