Happy Friday ATX! Edition 19 š¤ šŖ©
Sorry we missed you last week!
Happy Friday ATX! š¤ Itās National Escargot Day! If eating snails is your thing hit up Peche I heard theyāre pretty tasty there š
It has never felt so good to be back in Austin. Iāve been traveling so much over the past 2 weeks and finally returned home at 2 am last night. Because of that, I havenāt been able to do or go to as many things as I would have liked so this will be a leaner newsletter.
Althoughā¦ I do have my first user submission ever and holy cow it blew me off my feet.
I hope when you read it it will inspire you to share some of your favorite things with us in a similar format!
Anyways letās jump right into it!
Itās getting toasty out there
Weekend Forecast: Lows in the 70s, highs in the 90s. Get outside, go to Barton, and enjoy the 90s while they last, Iād imagine weāre about to be in the 100s for the next few months per usual around these parts. We got Austin Greek Fest (we love a good Greek Fest) Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Roast Battle, our great friend DJ King Louie celebrates 11 YEARS of Friday night residency at Volstead tonight, and so much more!
I see gyros and dancing in your future šŗš»
Best thing we ate this weekā¦ I donāt have anything personal for this segment this week as I have not been in town for the past two weeks. But I can absolutely vouch for the amazing Leroy and Lewis and wanted to highlight something new that theyāre doing.
The BBQ Kings have fully opened their new full restaurant as of February and theyāre making great use of their newly had full kitchen in comparison to the food truck they operated out of for years.
There are so many inventive culinary offerings that I see them posting every day on their Instagram but what really caught me was the fact that theyāre now doing something called Steak Reservations.
You get a smoked and seared bone-in porterhouse or ribeye steak, locally raised, butchered in house (thiccc) and dry-aged by L&L themselves.
The steak serves 2-6 people depending on the reservation size, and comes with the L&L Snack board, Arugula salad, and mouth watering onion rings.
I am looking forward to this immensely, and if this sounds like something that would be up your alley, I can tell you L&L will certainly do it right.
(unfortunately I donāt have photos that display everything I am describing here but check out this video for a quick explanation by the man himselfā¦)
Most fun we had this weekā¦ Skipping this segment this week due to not having really done anything at all in Austin this week but you bet Iāll be back to living it up this weekend and have plenty to share with you all next week.
New Business that we want to tryā¦ AHHHH! Iām so excited to share our first user submission with you!
First Lights Books is an incredibly charming bookstore in Hyde Park. They opened their doors in August of 2023. Not only do they have such a beautifully designed space they also have a little cafe full of delicious coffee, treats, and other drinks. My personal fave is the sparkling yuzu lemonade. It just lights up my whole soul and it feels so refreshing, especially enjoying it on their outdoor patio. It's mostly shaded by some wonderful trees and when the wind blows you can smell the greenery they have planted throughout. They even have a service window for folks who just want to stay in the sunshine.
Inside they offer a wide variety of books that really inspire you to spend more time off screens and into pages. A cell phone can never compare to the smell of crisp paper bound together. They also have a magical reading nook designed by Austin-based Blue Moon Glassworks. It truly is a masterpiece and brings such delight to the entire space. Whether you're there to read or be studious their staff is so kind and down to earth. If they don't have the book you're looking for they'll be sure to order it for you. They also are a business that builds community. Through their books club, chess nights, trivia gatherings, special events, wine nights, and more. They even have writers or other artists even chefs come into the shop for a more intimate gathering for them to share their latest projects. But wait there's more! An adorable kids section with live readings on Wednesday mornings.
I always feel at ease but still highly motivated at First Light Books. It has inspired me to read more and that has brought more peace into my life. If you haven't been, it's truly one of my favorite spots in Austin. There is also a Tiny Grocer next door with a great patio if you need a few extra things for your week.
Thanks for reading!

Iām gonna keep this one short and sweet this week because the newsletter shouldāve been in your inboxes 29 minutes ago at the time that I am writing this.
Iāve been digging the modern Victorian vibes recently and this one has a ton of potential. Located near SoCo, with a huge wraparound porch, a big carport with storage, a fenced front yard, and what appears to be a separate space for hobbies (art studio or music room?) I love what Iām seeing here. It might need a little bit of TLC, but hopefully whoever takes on the task retains more of the vibes than some of the renderings shown toward the end of the listing.
