Happy Friday ATX! đ€ Itâs National Clean Up Your Room Day ya filthy animals! HA
By the time you read this we are on a plane to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the next 8 days and I want to try something a bit different. đŽâïž
This wonât happen often as I LOVE writing this newsletter for you all every week, but because we are going to be out of Austin for the next 8 days and wonât have as much time to work on next weekâs newsletter I want to open up the floor for submissions.
Take a read through this and past editions of the newsletter to get a feel for things and if you feel so inclined and want to share some of your favorite Austin gems, write a small article that fits the bill of one of the recurring weekly segments (best thing we ate this week, most fun thing we did this week, new business we want to try, listing of the week, meme of the week, etcâŠ) and send it to [email protected] with your first and last name to be credited (unless you want to remain anonymous) and we will go through and pick out a few of our favorites for next week to feature!
Like I said this wonât happen often, but if youâve been wanting me to showcase something (a restaurant, a bar, a park, or a business of any sort) that has not been in the newsletter yet, now is your chance to have it featured with a writeup of your very own!
Now letâs jump into whatâs happening this weekend! (sorry for lack of meme this week did not have time to make one before boarding the flight!)
Weekend Forecast: Itâs going to be cloudy this weekend with lows in the mid-high 60s, and highs in the 80s. Roast Battle, Willie Nelson, Burning Man Fundraisers, the Paramount Gala, Mothers Day, and Nicki Minaj make this another BUSY weekend in and around Austin, Texas. đșđ»
Best thing we ate this week⊠I have an announcement:
Desnudo Coffee is worth ALL the hype.
We went to try it out on Sunday and upon arrival, I was gobsmacked by the size of the line, but instead of leaving to find a shorter line somewhere else, my curiosity was piqued. I looked at Kiana and said âThere must be something to this place if all of these folks are just okay standing in a 100-person line for coffee!â and let me tell you⊠I am so glad my patient side won that day.
It proceeded to be one of my favorite experiences at any coffee shop I have been to. I did my normal thing of striking up a conversation with a total stranger, who happened to be a seasoned Desnudo-goer who recommended that I try one of their specialty coffees, which is not something I would normally do because I order the same thing everywhere⊠but I am glad I listened.
One of the founders of Desnudo, Sergio, greeted us personally and gave us his pointers on the best things on the menu and let me tell you this guy passed the vibe check with flying colors. Kiana and I both ordered the Miso Brown Sugar Latte and holy f*ck was this thing insane. The way that the coffee blends with the miso and brown sugar is *chefâs kiss*
âŠand of course⊠I canât be within 50 feet of a Vera Cruz All Natural without ordering some tacos so we both ordered a Migas and a Barbacoa taco and went to town. Weâll dive more into Vera Cruz another day as they deserve a writeup of their own, but long story short they have the BEST migas taco in town and a whole host of other authentic offerings.
Desnudo + Vera Cruz is a wonderful Sunday (or any day that ends with a y) morning itinerary and if you donât have plans this Sunday morning it might just be the move.
Edition #Fresas
Most fun we had this week⊠Many of you donât know this yet, but I am an absolutely MASSIVE Formula One fan, a car nerd, and a lover of basically all things motorsport. So for my birthday this year (this past Wednesday), I wanted to go try out K1 Speed.
Yeah, I know I am now 28 years old, đ but these arenât your average Main Event go-karts. These suckers push dang near 50 mph and I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. I thought it would be a fun time, but honestly the sign on the door that says âcaution can be addictingâ turns out to be a little more accurate than I thought it would be. đ
These little karts absolutely rip! I went there with a friend, and it was a Wednesday, so interestingly most of the people there were K1 employees on their day off (tells you how fun it is that theyâre going in on their day off to race). This made it interesting because those guys were FAST and showed my buddy and me the limits of what these things could do. It also meant we were getting clobbered in every race, part of what got the competitive juices flowing and has me itching to go back to beat my times (they email you your lap times after every race so you can see your progress)!
I will say, the physicality of racing these karts sort of caught me off guard as the lack of power steering means that your hands will be VERY sore by the end of your first race if youâre pushing it. Here I am a day later with tired hands and sore muscles all over my back that Iâve never felt before probably because I havenât ever really spent a few hours wrestling with a steering wheel before.
If you want a shot of adrenaline or a fun competitive activity to do with your friends or coworkers I really canât recommend K1 Speed enough!

New Business that we want to try⊠The first and only American to win the Bocuse d'Or award has opened a new cocktail lounge in Central Austin! This place excites the hypebeast in me with some of the decor featured in the photos.
Located in a historic house just west of downtown, PrĂ©lude by Chef Mathew Peters features an exquisite curation of cocktails âshowcasing top-tier spirits in playful waysâ to be sipped in an equally exquisite space. Elevated small bites curated by Chef Peters add to the experience while we wait for the full restaurant concept Maven to open on the second floor sometime over the next 2 years.
This place is going to be awesome, and I canât wait to see not only how it is initially received, but also how it evolves into Chef Peter's grander vision.
