Happy Friday ATX! š¤ Itās National Pretzel Day! Might be a great day to head to Easy Tiger for one of the best Pretzels in town! š„Ø
What is this publication even for you might ask? When I got the idea for this it was in a time when I was searching for a way to live a more aligned life.
Iāve always loved sharing the beautiful things about Austin with people who move here and new friends that I make. I was exploring newsletters as a business model and was going to start a newsletter about something completely different until this hit me. When it did I just KNEW it was the right idea.
My vision for this publication goes so much further than a newsletter though. You see, Kiana and I love to curate experiences for people. We want to do that through a variety of experiences we are going to launch, hopefully with your support. Right now we are sharing curated event lists, and creating content to hopefully help you get the most out of this city and will always continue to do so. But as we continue to grow, and as our sub count gets bigger, we want a real community to form.
I think weāre getting really close to it being time for an official Happy Friday ATX launch party. Weāll let yāall know the details when we begin to hash them out. But we canāt wait to meet some of you in person and begin to truly shape this vision š¤ šŖ©
Letās hop into whatās happening in Austin this week, but first a memeā¦
credit to u/straightedgesammy on Reddit. From two years ago but I feel like itās relevant with Eeyoreās this weekend!
Weekend Forecast: This is gonna be one for the books! Eeyore's Birthday. Bad Bunny. Austin Psych Fest. Austin Blues Fest. Perlas 15th Anniversary Crawfish Boil. Roast Battle. And WIENER DOG RACES?!šš
The weather is certainly looking dodgy, with windy conditions and storms threatening throughout the weekend. āļø But letās all cross our fingers that the weather holds up so that the wiener dog races donāt get canceled and Eeyore's Birthday party goes on as planned!
Best thing we ate this weekā¦ Okay, today Iām gonna let you in on a little secret. Thereās a place on Barton Springs Road that feels like you step back 30 years every time you walk into it. I know I wrote about wings in this section last week, but I really like wings. Theyāre a great source of protein, and dare I say Green Mesquite BBQ seriously has the best wings in town.
The Wings are smoked and only served with one sauce option, it's a house sauce thatās like a hybrid between a buffalo and a BBQ sauce and has just the right amount of honey, spice, and tanginess. It will make you cough if you inhale it, so thereās definitely a little heat there, but nothing most people canāt handle I donāt think. The fried okra is perfectly crispy, with a light fluffy breading thatās different from the cornmeal breading I am used to but equally as yum.
Green Mesquite serves up all of the classic BBQ dishes like smoked sausage, brisket, BBQ beans, etc. (Although I really come here for the wings and what I mention nextā¦)
Where they get me though is some of their other offerings like a lemon pepper breaded fried catfish plate served with hushpuppies that are to die for. There are plenty of hype BBQ spots in town, but if you order right at Green Mesquite, itās seriously up there with the best of them.
Pro tip: If you go between 4-9p Mon-Friday, the wings are cheapā¦ and they have a lot of crazy weekly specialsā¦ thatās all Iām going to tell you š
Green Mesquite Wings, Fried Okra, and French Fries.
Most fun we had this weekā¦ Historically this has been a segment in which we wrote about something we had already done each week. This one is gonna be a little different. Iām going to go out on a limb here and guess that the Bad Bunny show at Moody Center tonight will be the most fun thing we do this week.
Bad Bunnyās rise to the top of the music world has been astronomic and his stop in Austin is much anticipated. He has won three Grammy Awards, four Latin Grammy Awards, and eight Billboard Music Awards along with a slew of other international music awards and accolades.
This week has been a grind so I am excited for this. If youāre just finding out Bad Bunny is going to be in town and want to purchase tickets, theyāre linked below in the events section. Heās here Friday and Saturday night!
New Business that we want to tryā¦ Weāve written about our love for De Nada Cantina multiple times, and actually went there for dinner again last night. Their new concept Lil Easy looks set to open soon, with the large yellow sign having gone up over on the East Cesar Chavez location recently.
The concept is a Louisiana Dive bar, serving up Cajun food and bevies, including oysters, crawfish, fried seafood, and likely a rum-centric cocktail list.
Being a Cajun with āeaux in my last name, Iām quite excited to put this place to the test against some of my other favorite spots in town. With how well they have executed on De Nada, I have high expectations. They even have the same iconic plastic drink cups as De Nada except in yellow!
Weāll make sure to update you all again once there is an official opening date!
