Happy Friday ATX! đŸ€  Edition #11

3/22-3/24

Happy Friday ATX! đŸ€  It’s National Goof Off Day đŸ€Ș

On that note, I just want to remind you guys that it doesn’t always have to be so serious. Sometimes you just need to put all the stressful stuff aside and goof off a little bit.

When you’re caught up with the hustle and the bustle, it’s really easy to take everything too seriously. It’s easy to let the little things like getting cut off in traffic, or a long line at the grocery store, make you annoyed, or angry.

But I found a concept recently that changed my view on my happiness, and I thought it would be cool to share it with you all.

“Don’t be cheap with your happiness, be expensive”

What this means, is to not let the small things steal your happiness away from you. Your happiness and your peace of mind are far too valuable to let something small disrupt it.

So next time someone cuts you off in traffic, or something small upsets you, just remember

Be expensive with your happiness. Be luxurious with your happiness. And keep on vibing through your day
 😎

Now let's jump into what's up in Austin! But first a meme

Weekend Forecast: With lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s, the weather is going to be so nice so make it a point to get outside and touch some grass! đŸŒ±

It’s going to be a slower weekend in comparison to the last 2, but that is to be expected after 2 weeks of non-stop SXSW activities! We still have the likes of David Spade, Hippie Sabotage, NASCAR, and more!

Best thing we ate this week
Kiana and I celebrated our 7th year together on Wednesday, and after our experience at Lenoir for Kiana’s Birthday in December, (an experience that was featured in the very first issue of this newsletter) the bar had been raised for celebration dinners.

As I was hunting the internet to find something new and interesting that we haven’t tried yet, Kiana mentioned Eberly.

I had read about Eberly’s historic Cedar Tavern bar, but wasn’t quite prepared for just how beautiful this restaurant was inside.

The space had distinct sections. A dimly lit dining room. A social/bar area with people standing around the Cedar Tavern drinking and conversing. A pristine outdoor patio. Lastly, a magical atrium-like room with windows on all sides, plants hanging and inhabiting shelves, and marble tables. This was the room where we were seated.

The food was good, the service was good, the drinks were great, but the environment was outstanding.

We ordered a NY strip medium rare, that came with sautéed red kale, confit garlic, & bordelaise. The halibut with pomme purée, pepper relish, & red mustard greens. The beet salad with blood orange vinaigrette, green goddess emulsion, candied pistachios, & ricotta salata. The crudo kanpachi, with aji amarillo leche de tigre, blood orange, fried garlic, & scallions. And the crushed potatoes, with hot sauce powder, & yuzu kosho aioli.

My favorite two dishes were the halibut and the beet salad.

To sip I ordered a Charging Bull which is beef fat-washed old forester 86 bourbon, herb simple, Jerry Thomas bitters, & a house-made smoked mushroom salt, and WOW, what an interesting drink, but one I would order again and again. Kiana ordered a glass of Pinot Noir which she loved.

I’ll be back to Eberly for sure, and I look forward to trying some of their other offerings like their pasta and their eggplant Milanese.

Most fun we had this week
This Japanese band that my friends had raved about was playing a small F&F show at a beer store in West Campus called Juniors on Sunday night.

The band is called Route14 and honestly, every single one of those musicians is world-class. They were so tight, and their energy was so high. Every song they played took my breath away, and they got real, raw, and emotional about how amazing it was to have a few dozen people out for the closing friends and family show, having started with only one 9 years ago.

We closed the night hanging out with the band while cooking food and enjoying drinks back at my friend’s house, who was playing host to them for the 3rd year in a row.

I will never miss another show of theirs when they’re in town!

Here is their Spotify so you can check it out đŸŽș

New Business that we want to try
Driving up I35 recently, I was kind of struck by the building that was (well, still technically is) home to the Sheraton Hotel.

This is a building that I have seen over and over again throughout my life in Austin, but for some reason, it caught my eye this time.

It has this weird retro look to it, and I wished someone would make it something new. Something that would resonate with Austin and become a place for folks to gather similar to what The Proper, South Congress Hotel, and The Line have done.

Fast forward to SXSW and we found ourselves at the British Music Embassy right there in the backyard of the Sheraton, but the flyers said “Downright Austin”...?

Then it clicked, I had seen this Instagram profile that was sleek, with pink and green Miami-disco-type vibes, and a caption that read

“Welcome to Downright, a vibrant hotel and social space coming to downtown Austin
We’re not just a hotel; we’re your go-to spot for good times and good vibes.”

The thing that my mind said “that would be freakin’ sweet” about, was happening!

While the SXSW event we attended there was largely relegated to outside, crews were hard at work inside getting it renovated, and in the meantime, the Sheraton is still open for booking.

From what I have gathered, a Miami-based group called Lost Boy & Co is teaming up with Austin-based management group FBR Management (behind a whole host of Austin establishments we know and love, check out the link) to create this new space in downtown Austin and we can’t wait to check it out!

Listing of the week

9707 Timber Ridge Pass Austin, Texas, 78733

Price: $1,465,000

Neighborhood: Cuernavaca

Square Feet: 3500

Now this place isn’t cheap by any means, but for the modern marvel that it is, the price honestly doesn’t seem THAT bad. It’s funky and modern with floor-to-ceiling windows, bamboo and concrete floors, and a weird boxy spiral staircase.

Cozy up by the fireplace, or feast your eyes on the stylish kitchen with granite tops, a gas range, and cool cabinets.

Love outdoor dining? You’ve got a deck for that. Plus, a rooftop for stargazing and hot tub chilling. The master suite? A private haven with a covered deck. Downstairs? Two guest-friendly bedrooms and a large bath. Dream of a music room? You’ve got space.

Top schools, low taxes. This one is pretty sweet.
